Tata Steel organised Jyoti Fellowship Award Ceremony

~ Awards given to 179 meritorious SC/ST students of West Singhbhum ~


Tata Steel today organised Jyoti Fellowship Award Ceremony at St. Xavier Welfare Centre, Chaibasa. 179 students from Chaibasa, Manoharpur and Chakradharpur of West Singhbhum district of Kolhan was awarded with the fellowship.  Mr Aboobacker Siddique, DC, West Singhbhum graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.


As part of its Affirmative Action Policy, Tata Steel offers Jyoti Fellowship to meritorious students from economically backward Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe families to enable them accomplish educational and career aspirations. Tata Steel's Tribal Cultural Society identifies deserving candidates from operational areas of the Company on the basis of merit test.


The first five toppers (Class VII) from Chaibasa and two toppers from Manoharpur were provided with computer tablets and the others wilth gifted wrist watches. Mr Biren Bhuta, Chief, Corporate Social Responsibility, Tata Steel, Ms Urmila Ekka, Hony. Secretary, Tribal Cultural Society, and staff members attended the event


Jyoti Fellowship is structured to cater to high school, intermediate, under-graduate and post-graduate students from the economically backward SC/ST families, the fund obligated by the Company has increased over the years. Jyoti Fellowship extends financial help to students from Kolhan region (East Singhbhum, West Singhbum and Seraikela Kharsawan districts), Jamadoba and West Bokaro of Jharkhand; Jagdalpur block of Chhattisgarh; Sukinda, Bamnipal, Joda, Gopalpur, Kalinganagar and Katamati of Odisha.
