Mr. H. M. Nerurkar
Managing Director

Hemant M. Nerurkar has been Executive Director of India and South East Asia of Tata Steel Limited since April 9, 2009 and Managing Director since October 01, 2009.

A B.Tech in metallurgical engineering from the College of Engineering, Pune University, Mr. Nerurkar has attended several management courses in India and overseas, including CEDEP in France. He is associated with several professional organisations, such as Indian Institute of Metals, INSDAG and AIMA Governing Council among others.

 

Mr. Nerurkar joined Tata Steel on February 1, 1982 and has held various positions including Chief Metallurgist, Senior Deputy Manager (LD-2 Projects), deputy general manager (Steel & Primary Mills), General Manager (Marketing), Senior General Manager (Supply Chain) and Chief Operating Officer (Steel). He has over 35 years of experience in steel industry in various functions. Mr. Nerurkar is an executive with multifaceted experience ranging from project execution, manufacturing, Quality Control, Supply Chain and Marketing. He became the Vice President (Flat Products) in November 2002 and in September 2007 was appointed Chief Operating Officer (Steel).

 

Mr. Nerurkar is a unique motivational leader with capabilities beyond compare.  He instills confidence in his subordinates and mentors them to reach excellence.  He has a natural flair for nurturing and cultivating innovation and out of box thinking. He has keen business acumen in identifying new business opportunities for accelerated growth.  A family man at heart, his personal life is governed by strong family values.

 

During his illustrious career, Mr. Nerurkar has been conferred with several prestigious awards such as the 'Tata Gold Medal 2004', 'SMS Demag Excellence Award 2002', Steel 80s Award - 1990', 'SAIL Gold Medal - 1989' Visveswaraya Award - 1988' and 'NMD Award 1987'.

 

In the past Mr. Nerurkar has remained Chairman of Hooghly Met Coke & Power Co. Ltd., Gopalpur Special Economic Zone Ltd. and Director - Tata Ryerson Ltd., Dhamra Port Company Ltd., Jajpur Cluster Development Ltd. A. Anjeneyan joined Tata Steel as Joint Company Secretary & Chief of Compliance on July 27, 2009.

Born in Thrissur, Kerala, he graduated in Commerce from University of Bombay. He then undertook a two-year training course in Banking from the Indian Institute of Bankers and a four-year training course from The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI). He brings on board a rich experience of 25 years. Prior to joining his present assignment, he worked with ACC as Company Secretary.

Mr. Sandip Biswas
Group Director (Corporate Finance and M&A)

Mr. Sandip Biswas is currently the Group Director - (Corporate Finance and M & A) for Tata Steel Limited. In his role, he oversees the Tata Steel Group's financing strategies, capital structure, mergers and acquisitions, planning and execution of capital raising activities for both debt and equity, liquidity management, foreign exchange risk management, investor relations activities and corporate legal among others.

Prior to taking up this assignment, Mr. Sandip Biswas was Group Head - Corporate Finance, Treasury and Investor Relations, Chief Corporate Finance and Treasury and Chief Foreign Exchange & Treasury Management for Tata Steel Limited, India.

Mr. Koushik Chatterjee
Group CFO

Mr. Chatterjee is an Honours Graduate in Commerce from Calcutta University and a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

Mr. Koushik Chatterjee joined Tata Steel in 1995. During his stint in the Company, he worked in the areas of Corporate Finance and Planning.  During the years 1996-1998, he was also a visiting faculty at XLRI, Jamshedpur in Corporate Finance.  In 1998 he was transferred to the Tata Steel Head Office in Mumbai and subsequently to Tata Sons Limited in the Group Executive Office (GEO).  He became General Manager - Corporate Finance in Tata Sons in 2002.  During his tenure in Tata Sons Limited, he was involved in Mergers & Acquisitions' activities including privatisations and joint ventures.  He was also the lead facilitator in the Groupwide roll out of Economic Value Added (EVA) for the major Tata companies.

 

Mr. Chatterjee re-joined Tata Steel on August 1, 2003 and was appointed the Vice President (Finance) w.e.f. August 1, 2004. With the announcement of the new Tata Steel Group post the acquisition of Corus, Mr. Chatterjee was appointed as Group Chief Financial Officer w.e.f. 1st January 2008. He has overall responsibility for Group Financial Reporting, Investor Relations, Financing Strategy including debt and equity raising, Corporate M&A, Risk Management and Compliance, Taxation Strategy and Planning and Co-ordination of statutory and management reporting.

 

He is on the Board of several Tata Steel Group companies including Tata Steel UK, NatSteel Asia Pte. Limited, Tata Steel (Thailand) Public Company Limited, Southern Steel Berhad, Malaysia and others.

 

Mr. Chatterjee was declared one of India's best CFOs by Business Today Magazine in 2005 and 2006 and by CNBC in 2007. He is also a frequent speaker in various conferences in India and abroad including the McKinsey Global CFO Forum, Economist Conferences and CII organised conferences.

Mr. Bimlendra Jha
Vice President, Long Products

Mr. Bimlendra Jha is a Ceramic Engineer from IT-BHU, Varanasi and has acquired the Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Management from XLRI, Jamshedpur. He has been appointed the Vice President (Long Products), Tata Steel Ltd. from 1st April 2010.

Mr. Jha has extensive experience in the areas of Steel Plant Refractories, Steel Marketing & Sales, Business Process Re-engineering, Brand Management, Change Management and Managing multi-project environment in equipment manufacturing.

 

In his earlier role, he was the Principal Executive Officer in Managing Director's Office, Tata Steel, from 1st June 2008. He has served two Managing Directors of Tata Steel, Mr. B. Muthuraman and Mr. H. M. Nerurkar and also served as the Secretary of Group Corporate Centre (GCC), the apex co-ordination forum of Tata Steel Group. He was the Executive-In-Charge (EIC) of Tata Growth Shop (TGS), a capital equipment manufacturing business of Tata Steel from September 2004. He has to his credit a significant turnaround of this business unit using his skills in Theory of Constraints (TOC) and other improvement philosophies.

 

Mr. Jha is also credited with inventing a comprehensive improvement framework for Tata Steel called ASPIRE that draws from the best practices of Six Sigma, TPM Knowledge Management and TOC. He was instrumental in introducing TOP in Marketing and TOC at Tata Steel in his previous role as Chief of Aspire and Improvement Groups. He has ever since remained associated with the development of thought process on TOC implementation in Tata Steel and recommended TOC to many other Tata Group Companies.

 

As a member of marketing team of Tata Steel, Mr. Jha has done some pioneering work in the areas of Market Development and Brand Management. This includes the design of new processes in Marketing, Value Selling and Channel Loyalty programme. More recently, he was instrumental in getting Goldratt Schools and TMTC to cooperate and offer courses on TOC to help promote the conception in Tata Group Companies and Indian Industry.

 

Mr. Jha is currently on the boards of M/s JAMIPOL Ltd. and The Dhamra Port Company Ltd. He is the Chairman of Study Group to evaluate investment proposals in Tata Steel. He has been the Chairman of Indian Value Engineering Society and Convener of Technical Education & Training Panel of CII (Jharkhand). He is also Chairman of Kantilal Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Jamshedpur and member of Tata Group Innovation Forum (TGIF).

Mr. Hridayeshwar Jha
Vice President, Odisha Project

Mr. Hridayeshwar Jha completed his Bachelors in Engineering from the Benaras Hindu University. He did his Masters in Science (engineering) from Ranchi University.

Mr. Hridayeshwar Jha has done his Post-graduate Diploma in Business Management from the Xavier Institute of Business Management. Moreover, he completed his Executive Development Programme from CEDEP, INSEAD France.

 

Mr. Jha has been appointed Vice President, Orissa Project from 1st April, 2010. Prior to this he had been VP, Safety & Long Products. Mr. Jha has been the member of the Board and holds the directorship of companies like NatSteel Asia, Singapore, Raw Met, TS Asia, Tata Steel Thailand, TM International Logistics Limited, India and Tata Refractories Limited.

Mr. Varun K. Jha
Vice President, Engineering and Chhattisgarh Project

Mr Varun K. Jha is an electrical engineer from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur. He has also done a PGDBM from XLRI and a Management Programme from CEDEP, France.

Mr. Jha joined Tata Steel in 1972 as a graduate trainee and started his professional career in the Engineering Division. He is currently the Vice President of Engineering and Chhattisgarh Project. He has worked in various capacities in the Engineering Division and Modernisation Group and was responsible for project management and construction of a large number of projects under the Modernisation programme.

 

He has worked in the area of Technical Training and was involved in revamping Graduate training and other training programmes including training of personnel for new projects. In 1993 he worked for about a year looking after the maintenance of Electrical and Electronic equipment for Hot Strip Mill and other new facilities.

 

From mid 1994 he has led Information Technology Services. He was responsible for implementation of a large number of IT projects including SAP R/3 systems, Production Planning Systems for Flat Products, Long Products and for the Cold Rolling Mill, Data Warehousing and Data mining, Knowledge Management, e-Procurement etc. He was also responsible for outsourcing of IT infrastructure to IBM and IT for plant systems to HP.

 

In 2003, Mr. Jha led the project to develop IT strategy for the Company. Gartner executed the project in consultation with an in-house team consisting of business managers and IT professionals. He has also led the IT Panel of CII Jharkhand Council and has interacted with Government Agencies to help formulate IT policy and also to promote e-Governance in the state.

 

He is currently a member of Board of Directors of Tata Yodogawa Ltd.

 

Under his leadership, Tata Steel has won several awards for innovative use of IT such as the prestigious NASSCOM award for best usage of IT in Manufacturing Industries in India. Last year, Dataquest and CIOL recognised Mr. Varun Jha as the Champion CIO in the country.

Mr. Abanindra M. Misra
Vice President, CSI and IR

Mr A. M. Misra joined Tata Steel in 1973 as a Graduate Trainee after completing his B.E (Mechanical Engineering). He completed his Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management from XLRI, Jamshedpur in 1981.

Mr. A. M. Misra has been appointed Vice President, CSI & IR from 1st April, 2010. Prior to this, as VP, Raw Materials and Coke, Sinter & Iron he had been in charge of the Mines and Collieries, Ferro Alloys Division and also the Iron Making Division.

 

Mr. Misra has also remained Vice President (Human Resources) during his long years of service.  In the year 2001, he led the Performance Ethics Programme with the objective of reorganising the business units of Tata Steel as well as for developing the HR strategy of the Company for the future. Mr Misra has also attended the General Management Programme in CEDEP (INSEAD, France).

 

Mr. Misra has worked in the operations of Steel Plant for many years in various capacities such as Technical Officer, Divisional Manager (Foundries) etc.  In the year 2002, he was appointed as General Manager of West Bokaro Colliery Division of Tata Steel. During his tenure West Bokaro Colliery was awarded the Qimpro National Benchmark in coal mining practices. Mr. Misra also led the Total Quality Movement in Tata Steel from 1996-2000. During this period, Tata Steel won the coveted JRD Quality Value Award and several other awards as well.

 

He is currently Chairman of Tata Steel KZN, South Africa, Tata Sponge Iron Ltd. and of Rawmet Ferrous Industries, Orissa. He is also the Chairman, Indian National Suggestion Schemes Association (INSSAN), Eastern India Council.  He has also been the Chairman of the Institute of Indian Foundry men, Jamshedpur Chapter and the Chairman of CII Bokaro & Dhanbad Council in the past.

Mr. T. V. Narendran
Vice President, Safety and Flat Products

Mr. T.V. Narendran is a Mechanical Engineer from REC (NIT) Trichy, who joined Tata Steel after his MBA from IIM Calcutta in 1988. He is a Chevening Scholar and has also attended the Advanced Management Programme in CEDEP - INSEAD, Fountainbleau, France.

Mr. Narendran worked in the International Trading Division of Tata Steel from 1988 to 1997 wherein he spent five years in Dubai looking after Tata Steels' exports to the Middle East.  From 1997 to 2001 he spent time in Tata Steels' marketing and sales division and was involved in market development work for the Cold Rolling Mill Project, Supply Chain Management, Sales Planning etc.  From 2001 to 2003 he was the Chief of Marketing & Sales (Long Products) and played a key role in building the 'Tata Tiscon' brand and the distribution network for the same.  From 2003 to 2005 he worked with Mr. Muthuraman, the then Managing Director of Tata Steel as his Principal Executive Officer.

 

He was actively involved in the Tata Steel's first overseas acquisition, NatSteel and was seconded there as an Executive Vice President in 2005.  He ran operations in NatSteel thereafter as the Deputy President (Operations) and took over as the President & CEO on 1st January 2008.  He played a key role in the integration of NatSteel and Tata Steel.

 

Mr. Narendran has accepted responsibility as Vice President, Flat Products from 1st April 2010.

 

During his stint in NatSteel, Mr. Narendran was a director on the Board of South East Asia Iron & Steel Institute (SEAISI) and also served as the President of the ASEAN Iron & Steel Federation (AISIF) from 2007 to 2009.  He was also the Vice Chairman of the CII (India Business Forum) in Singapore.  He is currently on the boards of Tata Steel Thailand and NatSteel Holdings and an Alternate Director on the board of Southern Steel Berhad.

Mr. Sanjiv Paul
Vice President, Corporate Services

Mr. Sanjiv Paul, a Metallurgical Engineer from RIT Jamshedpur, joined Tata Steel as a graduate trainee in 1986. On completing his training in 1988, he worked in various functions like SMS-3, LD1, LD2 and Slab Caster, moving steadily up the professional ladder.

When Tata Steel engaged M/s McKinsey for the enhancement of the Total Operational Performance (TOP), Mr. Paul got the opportunity of leading this initiative from early 2000 to late 2001. He also led the Standard Costing team which was instrumental in developing the standard costs of all products and services provided by Tata Steel. On 1st Dec 2001, Mr. Paul was placed as Principal Executive Officer (PEO) to the then Managing Director of Tata Steel, Mr. B. Muthuraman.

 

In 2003, he became the General Manager of Town Services Division and was actively involved in the incorporation of this division as a separate business and legal entity - Jamshedpur Utilities and Services Company Limited (JUSCO). In November 2003, Mr Paul became its first Managing Director, a position that he held till 31st March 2010.

 

With effect from 1st April 2010, Mr. Paul has been appointed the Vice President (Corporate Services) for Tata Steel.

 

During his tenure as MD, JUSCO, Mr. Sanjiv Paul was instrumental in positioning JUSCO as India's only comprehensive urban infrastructure service provider with a special focus on the Water sector. He has spearheaded JUSCO's steady rise as a leader in the development of the water service industry which is accentuated by the numerous commendations and awards it has received over the past few years. The 5th Asia Water Management Excellence Award at Kuala Lampur, Malaysia in 2008 ensured global acknowledgment of JUSCO as one of the most effective water service providers in the Indian Sub-continent. National recognition has come with the National Urban Water Award, which JUSCO won in the Category - 'Citizen Services and Governance'. Mr. Sanjiv Paul received the award at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, from the Hon'ble President of India, Smt Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, on August 13, 2009.

 

Mr Paul. was also Chairman of CII Jharkhand during 2007-08 besides being a member of many social and voluntary organisations.

Mr. Anand Sen
Vice President, TQM and Shared Services

Mr. Anand Sen is currently Vice President (TQM & Shared Services) of Tata Steel Ltd. This division looks after the maintenance, infrastructure, supply of industrial gases and utilities to the Jamshedpur Works of Tata Steel. He is also responsible for promotion of TQM across Tata Steel India.

Mr. Sen also serves on the boards of TAYO Rolls Ltd., Tata Steel Processing and Distribution Ltd, Tata BlueScope Ltd. and The Tinplate Company of India Limited. He chairs the Agrico Profit Centre Council, the Jharkhand Boxing Association and Jamshedpur School of Arts, among other things. He is also a member of Executive Council of Indian Institute of Metals.


Mr. Sen graduated from IIT, Kharagpur as a Metallurgical Engineer and joined Tata Steel as a Graduate Trainee in 1981. Subsequently, he completed his MBA from IIM, Kolkata and executive MBA from CEDEP at INSEAD.


Mr. Sen has spent a significant part of his career in the area of Marketing and Sales, Strategy and Business Leadership. He has led the company's foray into branded steel from India's first dedicated Steel Distribution Channel. He has also been associated with the development of specialized steel for the automotive industry. He has served as Chairman of the Living Steel Project of WSA, which is a global body to promote usage of steel in construction.


He has authored a number of papers and journals and was awarded the Essar Gold Medal of the Indian Institute of Metals


He resides at Jamshedpur along with his wife and his two children.

Mr. Partha Sengupta
Vice President, Raw Materials

Mr. Partha Sengupta, has been appointed Vice President (Raw Materials) at Tata Steel Ltd. from 1st April 2010. He had joined the Company as a Graduate Trainee in 1980.

A metallurgist from IT, BHU, Mr. Sengupta has had the experience of contributing to diverse departments of Tata Steel since he joined the Company. After stints in R & D and Scientific Services, he was transferred to Marketing Division in 1991, where he worked till 1995. Thereafter, Mr. Sengupta served as a Commercial Manager in MD's office, Kolkata. In 1996, he took charge to re-structure the Order Fulfillment Process as Head of the Customer Order Management Department. He was then involved in re-engineering the outbound supply chain and creation of Customer Service Division, which he headed as Chief till 2002.

 

In 2002, Mr. Partha Sengupta moved to Mumbai in Tata Special Steel Limited, the largest manufacturer of steel wires in the country. He supervised its merger into Tata Steel and was placed as the Executive-in-Charge of Wire Division in 2003. In 2005, Mr. Sengupta took over as the Principal Executive Officer to the Managing Director. While carrying forward the responsibility of being the PEO of the Company, Mr. Sengupta was given additional charge of overseeing the Jharkhand Steel Project. In 2007, Mr. Sengupta took over as Vice President (Corporate Services), Tata Steel and worked relentlessly to take all areas under his supervision to greater heights. As VP Raw Materials, Mr. Sengupta is in charge of not only the existing Raw Materials Division but also of Global Minerals, Natural Resources Division, Raw Materials Strategy Group and S&T Mining Project.

 

He was appointed Chairman of ISWP in 2008. He is a Director of the JUSCO Board and Tata Pigments Limited. He has also been appointed as Chairman of CII - Jharkhand Council in 2008.

 

An able and proficient multi tasker, with an eye for perfection, Mr. Sengupta has not only lived up to the expectations of his team as a leader and team member but has also created high standards of work culture. His keen business acumen and result oriented approach has made him excel in executing challenging assignments and responsibilities entrusted upon him. In addition to excelling professionally in all fields assigned to him, Mr. Sengupta has undergone extensive training in various Institutions around the world like INSEAD, France.

 

With an illustrious career spanning across 28 years, Mr. Sengupta is held in high esteem professionally amongst his peers. A widely travelled person, Mr. Sengupta plays an active role in promoting cultural activities. Apart from being an avid reader, he is also passionate about sports.
