Deming Application Prize-2008

Steel India’s Award of the Deming Application Prize-2008 for excellence in Total Quality Management was a first to an integrated steel company outside Japan. While accepting the award Mr. Muthuraman dedicated it to the employees and workers of Tata Steel. During the assessment process, the Japanese examiners were not only impressed by the quality parameters followed at Tata Steel, but also by the social commitments taken up by the Company and work done by it in the rural areas over the last 100 years.

 

Dow Jones Sustainability World Index

From September 22, 2008 Tata Steel is one of the only two Indian companies (along with Tata Consultancy Services) to feature on the composite Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World). DJSI World comprises leaders in sustainability (the top 10% in terms of performance), selected on the basis of long-term economic, environmental and social criteria, from the largest 2500 companies in the world. A systematic corporate sustainability assessment identifies the sustainability leaders in 57 separate industry groups. The analysis considers general as well as industry-specific sustainability trends and evaluates companies based on a variety of criteria, including climate change strategies, energy consumption, human resources development, knowledge management, stakeholder relations and corporate governance.

  • Safety and Health Excellence Recognition Award 2010 by the World Steel Association.
  • The Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar for the second consecutive year.
  • Recognised in six of the seven categories at the annual awards function organised by the Joint Committee on Safety, Health and Environment in Steel Industry (JCSSI).
  • The CSR Excellence Award 2010 by ASSOCHAM, National CSR Committee and CSR Organising Committee.
  • The Businessworld-FICCI-SEDF Corporate Social Responsibility Award 2009.
  • The Best Corporate Social Responsibility Practice Award at the 6th Social and Corporate Governance  Awards 2010 by the Bombay Stock Exchange.
